Congratulations to this years winners - Gloucestershire
Torquay Golf Club hosted this competition with their usual welcoming hospitality and the course was in a beautiful condition. Teams of 4 were welcomed from Cornwall, Dorset, Devon, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire - old friends and new. Many had travelled down the day before for a practice round before the big day. Many thanks to Torquay Golf Club staff and Lady Captain Laura Colman for their support for this competition and to DevonGolf Competitions Manager Wendy Stanbury, the administrator for the day and Yvonne Alford, DevonGolf's South West Women's Golf Association and England Golf Representative for starting in what was quite windy and chilly weather - welcome to August on the English Riviera!
It was a scratch medal format with 3 of the 4 scores to count for the trophy, each playing with someone from a different county - making the tension mount in the clubhouse as the scores came in.
As the early scores came in, Devon were looking good in 2nd place but it was not to last as they finished in 4th place overall with a gross 250. Dorset's 237 looked very promising until Gloucestershire's Alison Kelly (4, Cirencester) came in with a 78 to win the trophy for Gloucestershire with a total of 236. A nail biting finish !
Whilst it wasn't Somerset's day as a team, the highlight for them was the Hole-in-One on the par 3, 142 yard, 11th hole. Congratulations Sara Cox-Conklin and thanks for the drinks all round in the clubhouse.
